Obituary - Kathleen (Kay) Maas

Matriarch of Maas Family and Pioneer of Homestead

Kathleen (Kay) Maas of the Redlands in Homestead passed away on January 5th, 2019 at the age of 90.

Born in County Down, Ireland and raised in Chicago, Illinois, she and her husband of more than seventy years, moved to the Redlands in 1952. They joined the parish community of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where they were parishioners for over 66 years.

Kay (as known by her family and friends) was an active member of the church and many organizations including the Woman’s Club, Rosary and Altar Society, P.T.A. for the school, etc. She was honored as Mother of the Year by the Archdiocese of Miami in the 1970’s.

Kay is survived by her husband Fred, brother Patrick O’Hagan from Chicago, seven children - Carol Montgomery, Fred (Fritz) Maas, Jr., Edward Maas, Kathy Cuthbert, John P. Maas, Martha Maas and Rose Williams, as well as 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 12th, at noon, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Homestead, followed by burial at Palms Memorial Cemetery.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to any St. Vincent de Paul Society for the poor.
